Pope Joan - Hot Water, Lines & Rickety Machines
A hell of a lot of good music has been coming out of Brighton for the last five years and it shows no signs of slowing down as One Inch Badge Records (O.I.B) keep throwing out some really good stuff.
The latest album of theirs to hit the shops is the debut release from Pope Joan, eight tracks of taught, intense post-punk with a nice dose of melody thrown in to give you something to come back to. I put this on first thing at work this morning and it didn’t half raise me from my weekend slumber, blistering tracks like No TV and An Alternative Route To The End being my particular favourites here.
The one thing I would say is that being only eight tracks in length it feels more like an introduction to the band rather than the all singing all dancing debut, that though isn’t a bad thing in my eyes, an introduction surely means we’ll be seeing a lot more of this lot again in the near future.
