Blabbermouth - I Return

Just what/who is Blabbermouth? A quick check on myspace reveals that it is the stage name for the narrow boat dwelling singer/songwriter Steven Thompson, who released his debut album in 2008. On review here are 2 tracks taken from his forthcoming EP, both dealing with the afterlife.

I Return emotionally details a ‘sad cold spirit’ and it’s longing to return to a former lover, the sparse guitar arrangement sits low in the mix allowing Thompson’s fragile vocals to take centre stage. Death of a Songwriter revolves around the apologies of a dead musician who believes his songs being played on the radio will be a constant burden to his left behind lover.

The song has a nice start stop feel to it and the heartfelt vocals and melodies and clever arrangement really draw you into the late songwriters (probably unfounded) guilt. Available from all major download sites, or perhaps you can catch him singing from the stern of his boat as he tours the UK’s canals and rivers this summer.
