My Life’s A Blur - Part 1
My Friends think I’m nuts, my girlfriend can’t understand what has got into her relatively sane boyfriend and my Mum and Dad…well they just shake their heads as if to say “this is nothing new to us, we’ve seen it all before from him”.
So what has happened to me, why am I spending a lot of money to go see the same band, three days running at opposite ends of the country?
The answer is Blur have happened…again.
To us fans they never split up, they never said never and we have always clung to the hope that they would be back round again and if they could persuade Graham as well then that would be the icing on the cake.
Things weren’t looking good though, they were all following very successful careers outside of Blur, rumours had circulated and been squashed before and ultimately they didn’t have anything to prove to anyone, especially not to themselves.
When the news came out about the Hyde Park gig (that’s the week after and doesn’t form part of my trilogy here), I had to be there. Tickets were bought and soon more dates got announced, more tickets were bought and before you knew it I was signed up to four gigs and had I been able to get hold of tickets for a couple of others it would have been six.
First up is Wolverhampton, after a good days drinking we head to the venue, the impressive Civic Hall where Magistrates are midway through their support set. They aren’t bad in places, particularly on the more upbeat tracks they play, too much of their set sounds the same though and while they get a decent enough response at the end it’s mainly because it pushes us closer to the main event.
...and here they are after six long years since they last toured and longer still since Graham was part of the touring band it’s fair to say that excitement levels are high both for the sold out crowd and for the band.

Add to favouritesI aren’t going to go into the set too much (that’s for part 3 – Manchester), but they nail a superb set that includes a whole host of old hits, not to mention album tracks like Jubilee, Oily Water and Advert.
At the end of the gig I think my other half has got some idea of why I’m such a devoted fan of this band, she’s bought a t-shirt having been blown away and is enthusing about the crowds reaction to them, their performance and the reciprocal appreciation from the group to the audience. She still thinks I’m mad but ultimately she has an understanding of why I’m like that…welcome back lads and cheers for showing her the light!
