Vandal Label Launches In Leeds!
The upsurge in bands coming out of Leeds in recent years has been impossible to miss, while people will point to the initial success of The Kaiser Chiefs as the reason for this kick starting, the truth is a little different, sure it helped things along, but it certainly wasn’t the defining factor.
It’s no one thing that has caused it, more a case of a City that has long punched below it’s weight in terms of size and musical output, finally getting itself geared up and creating a self sufficient music scene that isn’t built around a certain style and doesn’t rely on outside support from the mainstream media or major record labels.
Venues are plentiful in Leeds now and especially the smaller venue, nights are being promoted more regularly and by more people, something that is also spreading out to near by places like Wakefield and Bradford and the icing on the cake is the number of small independent record labels that have sprung up over recent years, not overly concerned with profit, instead focusing on getting the music out there.
One such label that did that was 48 Crash , giving us much loved debut albums by Black Wire and The Insect Guide, well one half of the people behind that label are back with a new, fresh and very exciting label called Vandal.
Vandal will be officially launched with their own night at Josephs Well in Leeds on 3rd July. The brilliantly titled A Night Of Vandalism will showcase the bands from the label and will also mix it in with Graffiti Art and Dub DJs like a throwback to the old nights in 1977.

Add to favouritesSo what of the new acts the label are showcasing on the night? The one i’m really looking forward to hearing material from is The Kiara Elles (pictured) a band that have already gained support from Huw Stephens when he described them as “Sharp, smart and snappy”, they have a double a-side single out shortly and an album to follow further down the line.
Belladonna are another band that you should be keeping an ear out for, garage punk with distorted bass and maniacal drumming by two riotous girls…tell me that doesn’t sound like your sort of thing! They again have a single and album coming out, with both being released in early August.
The final band we have information on at the moment are Delorean Drivers a nine piece group who are as baffling as they are brilliant, they should be a real treat live this Friday if you can get down there.
