Pendulum - Leeds University
Looking forward to what would be an amazing night raving at a Pendulum gig we headed off to the Leeds Refectory in good time. Much to our dismay though, we were stuck in a queue that lasted around 30 minutes! When we finally got let in a DJ was on the stage pretty quickly. I have no idea who this DJ was (sorry) but he seemed to get the crowd going.
We on the other hand werent, he was alittle annoying to say the least. He looked awed at his own talent and after pressing buttons revealing more and more noises he jumped up as if to say “WOW look what I can do!” The songs he mixed were basic and repetetive. The only good one he played was Rage Against The Machines “Killing In The Name Of” which we happened to be sat down for anyway. Not a good start for me.
After what seemed like hours in the stifling heat Pendulum were up! (we were in the smoking area by this point but given the fact that everyone stampeded out the room we followed suit!). Their opening song “Hold Your Color” started off the rave almost immediately, the crowd absolutely loved it, we did too even though we weren’t raving; we were simply too hot and not enough alcohol consumption to get in the thick of it!
The Australian 6 piece band were very lively and successful in getting the crowd raving, this to me seemed ridiculous! The weather was so hot it was untrue. Gigs are hot and sweaty enough anyway but put them with extreme weather like that then its chaotic! The band had some fantastic lighting flashing across the room as expected. Red blue and green showing off everyones UV patches. The crowd were mainly young-they even made me feel old jumping around whereas I just didn’t have the energy.

Add to favouritesThey played all of their classics including my personal favourites “Fasten Your Seatbelts”, “Voodoo People” “Another Planet” and “Slam”. I think it’s safe to say “Slam” was the most popular-everyone surrounding the rave joined in for that one. I was a little disappointed they didn’t play “Insecurity” but had a great time nonetheless.
They played with energy which was commendable given the heat that was crazy in that room! The band bare resemblance to “The Prodigy” with their skills of drum and bass enticing a huge rave-”The Prodigy” are still my favourite but it’s close. Definately a must-see band if you’re the party type.

This wasn’t helpful at all! Anybody know who opened that night?! I completely disagree with this review! I was there and thought the opener kicked ass!
